The Jr/Sr High Youth Group at BRC is open to all students in grades seven and beyond.
Several events and programs take place for our group during each school year. The current schedule for all of the Youth Group's meetings and events can be found on this website's home page.
- Youth Group Meetings: Most Sunday evenings from September through June, group members gather for fellowship and fun. These meetings begin at 6:30 PM, usually in the BRC gym. Each meeting includes a time for games, discussion and prayer, ending at 8:00 PM.
- Venerate: This simple worship service happens from 5:30 to 6:15 on the first Sunday evening of each month during the school year. Experiential in nature, this time is intended to give our kids some time, set apart to focus on Christ through Scripture and prayer.
- Bible Study: On most Tuesday evenings during the school year, a Bible Study for Jr/Sr High students takes place from 7:00-8:00. Passages studied each week are based on the Daily Lectionary readings from the week prior to the study.
- Breakfast Club: This Saturday morning gathering takes place once each month during the school year. This is a chance for our youth to share a meal and spend some time talking with our Senior Pastor, Rich Scheenstra.
- Dessert Nights: This special event takes place on the last Sunday of each month. Following the Sunday evening Youth Group Meeting, group members gather at a local diner to hangout and have some dessert.
- The Fall Outing: This annual event takes place on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. Sometimes we go hiking. Sometimes we go canoeing. No matter what we do, we head outdoors for the day and we have a blast.
- The Mini-Mystery Retreat: This short retreat begins on Friday and ends in the early afternoon on Saturday. Typically this event taks place on the second weekend in November. Other than that, we can't tell you much about the event. Each year the location and activities are a complete mystery -- at least to the youth. This event is a favorite for many of our members. There are always surprises, a lot of fun, and plenty to think about.
- Christmas Party: This event has it's own traditions... like "Iron Present." Always fun and always a part of our journey from Advent to Christmas, this event takes place on the last Sunday of Advent.
- Winter Retreat: Once each year during the winter months, we head north and find a calm and comfortable place to sing, laugh, talk, share some food, and focus on the God of all Creation. This three day event has had a powerful impact on our group, year after year.
- Capture the Flag: We love this game, but we only play it once a year. So we do it up big. This event is held on the Sunday evening before Memorial Day weekend. If you want to play, let us know. You can send us an email by hitting the link on the left edge of this page.
- Service: We believe that we're "blessed so that we can be a blessing." Throughout the year, we serve our church and our community through a great number of events and projects. Every two or three years, we participate in a weeklong "workcamp" type service project somewhere in the eastern U.S.
- A Compassion Child: A few years ago our group decided to sponsor a child through the ministry of Compassion International. Our sponsor child, Ovianni, lives in the Dominican Republic. We raise support for her through an ongoing bottle drive. We also pray for her regularly, and several times a year we send her cards and letters.
- Movie Nights: Dinner and a movie, and a deep discussion. Hey, most of us enjoy TV and movies, but we think that it's possible to watch thoughtfully. So once every, couple of months we watch togehter, and then we talk together.
- And the Kitchen Sink: This list doesn't include all of the things that we do each year. If you really want to know what we're up to these days, consider joining us for our next Sunday evening meeting.
